Evaluate your Performance
I recently competed in a 4-day golf tournament where I was happy with my result. There were however about six shots that still irk me today, that in the end cost me about 12 shots. I find myself thinking about them often, and more to the point what caused me to play such awful shots.
All investigators should evaluate their investigations as a whole as well as the separate components within each investigation i.e. witness rapport, interviewing, report writing etc. Evaluating this and not just the evidence established will ultimately assist in improving each investigator’s skillset. Ask yourself the following questions:
What did you do well?
What could you have done better?
What areas can you develop?
How do I acquire these skills?
When evaluating your performance set goals to improve it where necessary. Where possible always have a colleague critique your work and provide feedback on your performance.
